"I remember being told about this internship long ago and thought it would definitely help me with what I wanted to do so I decided to take on this internship because I believe that it would be able to impact my original SBP I had come up with in the beginning of my year, it actually turned the direction of what I wanted my SBP to be and even though I’ll be completely honest that this program wasn’t what I expected it to be, City Builders will forever have it’s props for helping me get unstuck in this year for letting me try a variety of options for short periods of time instead of long term stuff that I wouldn’t like.
Hello, my name is Shyra Lantican and I am a grade 10 student here at the Met Centre for arts and Technology.
I am in the City Builders program in which what we do here is basically learn about all the different types and mediums of arts, that can vary from performing arts, all the way to visual arts, it's a very wide range and spectrum of subjects. What we learn is how those connect within our community here and how they go into a city like Winnipeg, forming a strong bond within the community of artists and as artists; how do we help with our city and city’s planning."

City Builders:
I am also in this program called the City Builders program and what I am currently doing there is learning about different forms of art and how they contribute into city planning or the growth of a city.
There was one experience in particular that had helped me lead up to my School-Based Project and it was Grey and Ivy. At Grey and Ivy they have design the space they had for them, and that was when it sparked my interest for architecture again as well as interior designing. I don't work well in groups so I was working individually, and I had learned a few things like blueprinting or creating a smaller model with the materials they had there.
Martha Street Studio
What is Martha’s Street Studio?
Martha’s Street Studio is a place where they specialize in print-making, locally, nationally and internationally! They are equipped in all sorts of print-making tools, as well as an art gallery shown in the second floor of the building
What did we do at Martha’s Street Studio?
What we did as City Builder’s inside of Martha’s Street Studio, is that we were given these nylon tiles I believe and then this tool that had multiple little carver’s in them, and we used those to carve into the those tiles into the drawing we made and we would use this paper with a side full of graphite and press that side onto the tile and our drawing on top of it. Then to retrace our drawing but pressing hard so that the graphite transfers.
Hard skills
Creating stencils/carving
Creating the buildings and using the smaller and bigger scoops to create detail like when something is in the foreground or in focus using a bigger scoop to create a bolder line or using a smaller one to create like cracks and brick
Why did I like this experience
It was something that challenged me in a good way because I ended up taking a liking to in the end and allowed me to be a little more creative and open-minded
