The Story of Bathala’s most beautiful daughter of Philippine Deity - Mayari
Bathala, was the transcendent Supreme God, he was the originator, as well as the ruler of the universe. Bathala was not alone, as he created a vibrant paradise that inhabited two separate worlds; gods and mortals. Bathala has many children, all being demi-gods, that ruled and shone much like stars collected in space amongst his bright sun. A special girl of his, shone the very brightest: Her name is Mayari.
Skin that luminated and sparkled, such as the seas as the light of the moon reflected off of the beautiful flowing water. Her hair was enough to polish the rust, in every diamond and gold there was to find, in which loomed over the night sky, she was the embodiment of grace and strength all at the same time. Bathala adored her dearly, she was a fierce woman and with a gentle heart; her true goddess form of the night was said to be true.
Mayari; the goddess of the dark sky, followed in her father’s footsteps, as she tried her best to become known for her wisdom and bravery. She roamed earth at night, her presence was luminescent, powerful, that brought consolation to those who were wandering in the dark and lost. Mortals on earth worshiped her, as they offered prayers and sacrifices, hoping for her guidance and protection, because she was able to lead the ones in the dim, to find the light.
However, not all gods were so perfect, that they cannot be dealt with their own flaws and envy. As much as Bathala adored her, she knew who he had crowned already in his mind. Mayari had a brother, Apolaki, the god of the sun. He was bright and bold, he had all of Mayari’s components, but as if they were multiplied. Radiated in glee and warmth, welcomed in the arms of what felt like hot chocolate in the winter snow, his strength was far stronger than a lot of their other siblings.
Their sibling rivalry grew aggressive, each trying their best to attract the attention of the mortals, but especially for their father’s appraisal. As a fateful day arrived, Bathala himself decided to host a contest between his two children to determine who would be the governor of the skies. The winner would be granted dominion over the heavens above, as well as the power to bring light forward to the world they live in. The challenge was actually simple: Each must create a realm that would impress the mortals.
Both Laki and Ari had fire within their pupils, grip strength to pierce almost through the molecular realm, as the fire between them amidst into flames; had they already forgotten what it was to even BE, the siblings they needed to be.
