The Compass Experience is like a family away from home for the students and teachers here; this is because our school is a small community with large social bonds and even larger goals. The students here are familiar with all the teachers and other students, which makes everything a more in-depth learning experience. You can sense the connection and belonging felt by all students and staff through the deep conversations and questions, the comfort of everyone, smiles and laughter in classrooms, and the excitement for being at school.
Inside Compass classrooms, students partake in both self-elected and self-lead classes, as well as traditional classes including science, math, and humanities. Students learn through projects, discussions, art, and hands-on experimentation. Classes are interdisciplinary often combining writing and reading with math and sciences, using art and theater to demonstrate knowledge, and allowing students opportunities to show their mastery in multiple different ways. Compass students are also able to express their educational desires and interests by choosing many of their classes such as foreign languages, art, PE, service, and ELOs. In addition, special program days such as Mountain Day, Giving Day, Winterm, and Project Week allow students to learn and develop skills and interests outside the classroom and Compass's physical borders. Opportunities for choice and personalization are offered at every moment! even the meals have many delicious and nutritious opportunities beloved by all.
Students of Compass School use it as a safe place to learn and grow in many ways they couldn't in more traditional schools, but Compass may fade due to limited funds and financial support. That means the friendships and opportunities it offers will fade too. Compass wants to continue to provide for our community but is not able to on its own, so we need help to keep this small yet mighty school going.
Thirty for Thirty is a fundraising opportunity that The Compass School is taking a part of. This program helps students and teachers commit to a goal for the month of April, and in return, people outside or in the community can donate to help support them. These goals are personalized and set by the students and staff, for it is important that each person is passionate about what they are doing. These goals could be things that the person wants to do every day, or they simply have a goal they want to reach by the end of the month. The reasons can vary, but they are all important no matter what. We hope that you support our small community and the goals of the people within.
Dear whomever may be reading this,
Compass school is here to tell you that thanks to the donations we were able to raise $5026.31! This is great news and due in part to these generous donations, Compass is officially open for the rest of this year and next year. We also want to give an additional thanks to our students and staff who participated. This wonderful participation and self propelled will is what makes Compass so special. Thank you to all once again!
Sincerely, Compass School
