For those of you who don't know me, my name is Rachel Golden-Coup and this is my first year at Compass. Before Compass I was working in the public school system and felt unsupported and creatively burnt out. When I found Compass it felt like I had finally found the place for me. I lovingly refer to Compass as the "island of misfit toys" where those of us who don't necessarily fit a traditional mold are able to thrive with acceptance and support. So, when I learned of Compass's financial troubles, it was vitally important for me to find a way to participate in helping. 30 for 30 was born during a staff meeting fundraising discussion and it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to not only give back to Compass, but to help me with some of my personal goals that I've struggled to dedicate time and energy to. I hope that through this challenge I make lots of gains--both physically for myself and financially for Compass. Thank you for taking the time to check out this project and thank you so much to everyone for following and supporting!
In preparation for my April challenge I've been taking advantage of the improving weather and going for lots of walks with Mr. Petey Peppers (pictured here to the right). I've also downloaded the DanceFit app and have been doing at least 25 minutes of dancing every day for the past week. I'm still not the most graceful, but I'm having fun and am excited to keep up the work! I did a preliminary 25 squats yesterday (while dancing), 20 crunches, and 10 pushups (5 full, 5 on my knees). I'm excited to see how my health and athleticism improves throughout this challenge!
I have been sticking to my practice and have successfully done my exercises every day for the past week. I'm continuing to use DanceBit as my cardio and have been dancing for at least 25 minutes every day for the past 2 weeks. After that I do my squats, pushups, and crunches. The number varies each day depending on how sore I am and how my joints are doing, but in general I do between 30-50 squats, 20-50 crunches, and 10-20 pushups (sometimes on my kness other times full on if I'm really feeling it). I'm feeling good and can tell that I'm getting stronger, slowly but surely.
I hit my 300 squats goal last week and hit a four week dance streak yesterday! I've slacked off a little bit with my push-ups and crunches, but am still on track to hit 300 of each by the end of the month. I'm really proud of the time and perseverance I've put into this challenge and can feel the difference even just from the start of the month to now. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me either financially or otherwise! It's been a fun journey so far and I plan to continue to the end of the month and beyond.
