This 10-month, part-time fellowship, supported by the Center for Institutional Social Change at Columbia Law School, enlists and supports people with firsthand experience and expertise in using the law while incarcerated. The fellowship equips participants to collaborate with lawyers and policymakers on projects aimed at making the law accessible to people who are incarcerated. It also engages participants in efforts to transform the law by reflecting the perspectives and insights of people directly affected in the development and communication of law and policy. Participants participate in weekly sessions and work with Columbia Law students on rewriting one or more chapters of the Jailhouse Lawyers Manual to make it more accessible to people who are incarcerated.
