Welcome to Learning In Public
**LIP Sprints are submitted via another form and have a simplified review process. See information on LIP Sprints here.
Contact the LIP office at lips@collegeunbound.edu
Any student who qualifies for the following criteria may submit a LIP portfolio:
Enrolled full-time (9CH or 12CH for Fall/Spring semester or 6CH for Summer)
Passing grades in all required courses in the previous semester (grade of C or better)
No current/active Incompletes on their record
Before you submit, you should determine if you need to submit a LIP portfolio. See this video or your degree audit. Create your own personalized LIP portfolio Template. Write deeply about your experiences, answering as many questions as you can and providing evidence for each role.
LIP credit can be earned for any General Education Requirement or Elective Credit. LIP credit can be earned for 2 Major Requirements (Organizational, Leadership or Change Studies). Students may submit up to 2 LIP portfolios per semester if all other requirements are met.
Your LIP portfolio will be sent to to two trained assessors. They will both provide feedback and propose credit level and amount. Once both assessments are submitted to the Office of LIP (usually within 3 weeks), the LIP team will evaluate the assessments, assign credit, and send it to the registrar (within 1 week). When the registrar has recieved the notice, you will get a confirmation that the process was complete. In that email, you can read your feedback and see the credit determined. It may take an addional 4-7 days for the credit to post to your degree audit.
The overall timeline from submission to crediting is usually between 4-6 weeks.
You may track your submission at anytime by clicking on the blue request number from your LIP Submission Form.
The LIP process has changed since 2023-24 school year. You no longer need to meet with someone from the Office of LIP before you submit a portfolio.
You do need to either use the template generator OR copy and paste your learning outcomes that indicate which degree requirements you are attempting to earn credit for.
If you have already taken or are enrolled in Learning from Experience and still need support, you can reach out to lips@collegeunbound.edu to ask questions or request a meeting.
STEP 1: Submission by Student via the LIP Submission Form
The student completes their LIP Portfolio and submits it through the submission form.
STEP 2: First Assessment by an Assessment Specialist
An assessment specialist reviews the portfolio against the selected outcomes and provides a credit recommendation.
Portfolios recommended for credit move to a second Assessment Specialist for their review.
STEP 3: Second Assessment by Second Assessment Specialist
An assessment specialist reviews the portfolio against the selected outcomes and provides a credit recommendation.
Portfolios recommended for credit move to the Process Credit step.
STEP 4: Final Approval and Crediting
Assessment Staff review each recommendation for credit and make a final determination of credit awarded for the Portfolio.
Credit awarded and comments provided by assessors are consolidated and sent to the student in a Completion notification.
Credit is posted to the student's Degree Audit.
