Welcome to Learning In Public
Track Big 10 progress collaboratively by making a copy of this Big 10 tracking sheet and sharing it with your Lab faculty and cohort. Work with each other and your Lab Faculty to track the progress of Big10s across the group, in one place.
You are learning every day—at work, in your family, in your community, through challenges, leadership, care, and survival. The Big 10 Competencies exist to help you name, claim, and grow that learning. The Big 10 are not about checking boxes or sounding academic. They are about making your learning visible—to yourself, to the college, and to the world beyond College Unbound.
They help you slow down, reflect, and ask:
Who was I when I arrived at CU? Who am I now? Who do I aspire to be?
Each Big 10 represents a core skill that employers value, communities need, and leaders rely on. These competencies, which you further develop in your core courses, give you a shared language to describe your growth across classes, work, activism, caregiving, and lived experience.
They honor your lived experience. Your learning didn’t start in a classroom—and it doesn’t have to be limited to one.
They enable you to integrate and apply your learning in the classroom with the change you aspire to lead in our world.
They build self-awareness and confidence. The Big 10 help you align reflection, evidence, and analysis. When you can clearly articulate what you know and how you learned it, you lead with purpose.
They prepare you for what’s next. Whether you’re applying for a job, advocating for change, or continuing your education, the Big 10 helps you tell your story with integration, clarity and strength.
At College Unbound, the Big 10 are not only Institutional Learning Outcomes they are also tools for agency. They invite you to see and show yourself as a learner, a leader, and a contributor to your community.
