Academic Honesty and Integrity:
Students are expected to maintain the highest degree of academic integrity and honesty. The honor code is a pact of trust between the school and student. Academic dishonesty prevents students from gaining the necessary skills needed to succeed, and demonstrates character inconsistent with the goals and values of our school and community.
Consequences:
Students caught cheating will either receive a grade of 0% on the affected assignment OR be given the opportunity, at the teacher's discretion, to redo the assignment in ISS during class time for a maximum grade of 70%. Consequences for cheating in Dual Enrollment (DE), Advanced Placement (AP), or Middle College courses may differ.
Academic dishonesty includes one or more but is NOT limited to the following:
Using AI, Chat GPT, or other electronic tools and passing as your writing
Taking someone else’s assignment or portion of an assignment and submitting it as your own
Providing your work to other students to be copied
Submitting material written by someone else or rephrasing the ideas of another without giving the author’s name or source
Presenting the work of tutors, parents, siblings, or friends as your own
Submitting purchased papers as your own
Submitting papers from the Internet as your own
Supporting plagiarism by providing your work to others
Copying answers on assignments from other students’ work
Giving or receiving answers during tests or quizzes
Using any form of memory aid during tests or quizzes without the permission of the teacher
Accessing a test or quiz for the purpose of determining the questions in advance
Removing a test or quiz from the classroom (physically or through technology)
Taking credit for group work when you have not contributed
Using summaries\commentaries such as Spark Notes and CliffsNotes in place of reading the assigned materials
For severe cases of cheating or repeat offenses, students may be subject to, but not limited to the following: After-School Detention, In-School-Suspension, Out-of-School Suspension, denial of eligibility for school awards or scholarships, loss of position for Student Council/class/club offices, loss of class credit, and/or recommendation for expulsion.
