National Honor Society Selection Procedure
In the fall semester, membership in the National Honor Society shall be open to members of the junior and senior classes who have earned a minimum cumulative GPA. Members must also excel in the areas of leadership, character, and service.
At the beginning of the fall semester, a list of all juniors and seniors who have the minimum GPA will be compiled by the registrar. These students will be notified that they are eligible for consideration for membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) by letter.
In order to receive further consideration for membership, a student must complete and return the Candidate Information Form to the NHS Faculty Adviser by the deadline stated on the form and the NHS chapter calendar found on the school website.
A faculty council* of five members will review all materials submitted by the candidate along with other verifiable information. When students are selected, their names are removed from all papers that the selection committee sees. Each candidate is assigned a number for their application so that no names are known to the committee while the process is being held.
A rubric that addresses each characteristic of NHS members is used to score the Candidate Information Form. The candidate’s number is used on this form to avoid bias.
Candidates receiving a score of 9 out of 12 will be notified by letter and invited to the induction.
Candidates not receiving the minimum score will be notified by letter.
*The principal will select the Faculty Committee annually. The five-member council will be a diverse group made of different academic areas. Membership to the Faculty Council is confidential.
