Attendance
Attendance
Attendance is a key factor in student achievement. Attendance is taken each block, and students must be present at least 45 minutes of the block to be counted as present. In order to receive credit for a high school course:
45-Day Quarter Course - A student can have no more than 5 absences.
90-Day Semester Course - A student can have no more than 10 absences.
180-Day Yearlong Course - A student can have no more than 20 absences.
Absence Excuses - Students must submit an excuse to the attendance office for all absences within 5 days of return to school.
Acceptable forms of documentation may be:
Parental - An explanation and admittance of awareness of a student's absence. Absences will be excused at the discretion of administration.
Medical - An official medical excuse with the exact dates the student was under the doctor’s care, and the date the student is permitted to return to school.
Death of Immediate Family Member - Student must bring the obituary of the deceased family member.
Extenuating Circumstances - Meeting with the student’s support team or administration, and must be approved by the principal.
If excuses are not submitted for an absence, the absence will be considered an unlawful absence.
If a student accrues three consecutive unlawful absences or five total unlawful absences, the student is considered truant.
If a student is considered truant, the school will initiate an “attendance intervention plan” to determine the reason for the absences and solutions to improve attendance.
Absence Notification - In the event of an absence, an automated system will notify the parent/legal guardian phone number provided during registration. Parents can also check student absences using PowerSchool.
SC Driver’s License Requirements
