October 31st, 2023
Hello Show Choir students and families!
Now that November is almost here, I figured this would be the perfect time for a comprehensive email discussing the myriad of show choir expectations for the upcoming season! PLEASE read this email thoroughly and in its entirety, and email me if you have any questions or concerns. Please also note our Show Choir Parent Meeting immediately after Show Choir Premiere Night on January 10th.
**After reading the entirety of this email, please fill out this short Google Form! Please fill out the form once per student/household: https://forms.gle/jWuSvFvVX7fvSwex8**
1.) Show choir is a wonderful medium for letting out energy through singing and dancing, however, it takes a TON of work, coordination, and effort on everyone's parts (including parents/guardians!) in order to make it happen. Please make sure to assist us in making sure that each student is at each rehearsal from here until the end of the season so that they do not miss any important information. Obviously there are extenuating circumstances that we are more than willing to account for, however, missing rehearsals means falling behind in cleaning and learning of new materials, and it is imperative that we do not have any links weaker than any others due to missed rehearsals.
With that, there are MANY ways in which we could use you or someone you know's help throughout the season, especially EVERYONE's help at our own show choir competition "The Rock" on March 2nd. Please, with whatever time, money, or energy you can spare, consider volunteering for our LNE Show Choirs!! We will have our volunteer signups for The Rock available at our Parent Meeting on January 10th.
Our primary forms of communication will be through email, so please be checking your emails thoroughly and often, and make sure that your email is updated on Synergy/ParentVue.
Our secondary form of communication will be through our RemindApp, especially starting in the next few weeks. In order to join all you need to do is text the following number with the following message, and you will receive updates as I send them out! Parents/Guardians and especially students are encouraged to join!
Dynamix VNH
Text “@dynamix23” to 81010 Text “@vnh2” to 81010
2.) DATES: There are a few important rehearsals, performances, etc., that are especially important to just our show choirs throughout the course of the next few months. We will NOT add any more dates or rehearsals to this calendar; times may be altered, but that is it! As a reminder, all of these dates have been on our calendar since we released it in May, 2023, and can be found at this link for easy access: https://sites.google.com/class.lps.org/lnemusic/music-department
Competitions/performances: Our competition schedule has 6 dates throughout the months of January and February, including our own competition the first week of March. These events are all day events for our students, and we'd love to have as many parents, families, and friends there to root on our students! Please make sure you have these dates on your calendars if they're not already. All performing times are TBA.
January 10 - Show Choir Premiere Night, 7pm (Tickets are $5, link coming soon!) (Parent meeting immediately afterwards!)
January 13 - Lincoln High Competition
January 20 - Millard West “Music Lives”
February 3 - Lincoln Southwest “Showdown”
February 10 - Northwest Missouri State Competition
February 17 - Wahoo “Court of Champions”
March 2 - Lincoln Northeast “The Rock”
Rehearsals: As mentioned previously, it is imperative that we have 100% of our students at our rehearsals to ensure that we are the best we can be! All after-school rehearsals and performances DO count for a grade in our grade book. If a student will be missing any rehearsals for any reason, please have your student fill out a Vocal Music Pink Sheet, although we cannot guarantee that your student will be EXCUSED. For a list of excused absences and for the Pink Sheet, please visit this website: https://sites.google.com/class.lps.org/lnemusic/vocal-music?authuser=0
We will begin our after-school Tuesday/Wednesday rehearsals on November 14th. These Wednesday rehearsals continue until the middle of February, with a few exceptions listed below.
Dynamix: Tuesdays, 3 - 5pm
VNH: Wednesdays, 3 - 5pm
Exceptions:
Monday, November 20th, Dynamix 3-5pm
Tuesday, November 21st, VNH 3-5pm
Tuesday, December 12th, NO DYNAMIX
Monday, January 8th, Dynamix 3-5pm
Tuesday, January 9th, VNH 3-5pm
There are only a few other rehearsals that take place outside of the school day, as listed below:
Saturday, November 18th, 9am - 4pm, VNH And Dynamix Choreography camp @Northeast, lunch provided
Wednesday, December 7th, POTENTIAL VNH/Orchestra Middle School tour, during the day
Saturday, January 6th, 8am - 2pm, DYN Boot camp @Northeast, lunch provided
Saturday, January 6th, 1pm - 7pm, VNH Boot camp @Northeast, lunch provided
On Fridays before competitions, we will have an OPEN Dress Rehearsal (meaning the public can attend!) as a last run-through and in order to get packed up before we go compete! Those dates are: January 12, January 19, February 2, February 9, February 16, 3-4:30pm
3.) MONEY: All of the above cannot happen without a cost. I have prided myself this year in ensuring that we are as efficient with our spending as possible, and that we spend less on our costuming than most other schools while still providing the highest quality of costuming possible. As mentioned in previous emails and meetings, the total for costuming WILL NOT exceed $450 total (VNH) or $350 total (Dynamix), and we are grateful for a few donations that will help pay for some of each student’s costs!
**The other fee that will show up on your Synergy fees account is a $150 Contribution Fee that pays for our buses to and from competitions. Without these funds, we will not be able to go to show choir competitions! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PAY THIS!**
While there isn't a mention of a Fee Deadline on Synergy, we are asking that all fees be paid for Show Choir NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 1ST.
What if I have fee waiver? The Fee Waiver will cover ALL Costuming Fees EXCEPT for the makeup fee (~$22). The Fee Waiver will NOT cover the $150 Contribution Fee as well. The fee waiver will not be applied to your account until the end of the year, so you will not need to pay the Costuming Fee (except for the makeup) by February 1st.
What's included in the costuming fees? Everything that we CAN see. For suit-wearers that includes suits, shoes, shirts, vests, ties. For dress-wearers that includes dresses, skirts, shoes, and makeup palettes.
What's NOT included in the costuming fee? Everything that we CANNOT see. So this means that we will not provide the necessary materials listed below. These materials can be bought at relatively cheap prices at Walmart, Kohl's, and Dance Stores as well. All items needing to be purchased by students/families are listed below in section 4.
*If under extenuating circumstances you or your family are not able to afford these items, please contact me and we will find you a solution.*
4.) APPEARANCE: Show Choir is super unique in that there is an expectation of cleanliness and uniformity when it comes to outfits, makeup, hair, choreography, vocals, etc., while also encouraging individuality and uniqueness in facial expressions, style. Below are some expectations for what is to be worn, purchased, etc., for uniformity purposes at show choir competitions.
Items to be purchased by individual families
*As a reminder, all of the following items can be purchased for relatively cheap prices at Walmart, Kohl's, and Dance Stores. We are asking that these undergarments be purchased/accessible for use by Monday, November 20th.*
Suit Wearers items to be purchased
Black compression shorts/boxer briefs
White undershirt
Black belt (MAYBE)LONG Black Dress socks
Dress Wearers items to be purchased
Tights (should match the student's skin color)
Body Suit (skin tight undergarment that covers all sensitive areas for changing room purposes)
Hair for Suit-Wearers
Hair is expected to be clean, well kept, and away from the face for Suit-Wearers
Hair should be away from the eyebrows (so we can see facial expressions)
Students' hair should be of a natural color (Brown, Black, Blonde, etc.)
Students should have their hair cut and clean, if necessary
Suit-Wearers should have facial hair well kept and professional
If a student has a beard, the hair should be well kept and presentable
Students should plan on shaving, trimming, etc., for every competition/performance with the show choirs
Hair/Makeup for Dress-Wearers
A specific hair design will be created and shared with Dress-Wearers with longer hair styles
If a Dress-Wearer has short hair unable to meet the hair design, please make sure the hair is well-kept and away from the eyebrows
Dress-Wearers hair should be of a natural color (Brown, Black, Blonde, Etc.)
Note: A hair design will be selected that will be accessible to students with all hair types, students will not be expected to utilize extensions, straighteners, etc., that may be extremely damaging to their specific hair style/type.
Makeup will be selected and purchased by EACH student. A Lipstain, Eye Palette, and Eye Shadow has been ordered for each student to use, and each student should plan on paying the makeup fee upon receiving their makeup. Approximate price coming soon, but should not exceed $20.
Students should plan on supplying and applying their own foundation, blush, and all other makeup products to create a uniform look across their ensemble.
It is understandable that not all students will be comfortable wearing copious amounts of makeup, nor applying their own makeup. Students and parent volunteers will be available to assist in the application, and accommodations will be made for any student uncomfortable with this process.
General Appearance Expectations
Glasses: Although highly recommended, students will NOT be expected to take off/replace their glasses for performances. We are more than understanding of the expenses associated with buying quality contacts and other eye necessities. However, if possible, we highly recommend using contacts during performances as glasses can reflect stage lights, etc.
Piercings/Tattoos: If a student has any visible piercings or tattoos, it is expected that they are removed/covered up to create a unified look across the ensemble. Piercings that cannot be removed can be easily covered up with a bandaid or similar covering, while tattoos can be covered up using foundational makeup, and other resources.
5.) GRADES/ATTENDANCE: As we have preached to our students repetitively throughout the years, show choir is a privilege and not a right. While many of our students want to go into the music industry in some capacity after high school, their first job is to achieve high marks in all of their non-music classes, and graduate! We have started doing some gradebook checks with our students to ensure that students are passing their classes. These WILL CONTINUE as we start show choir season, and there may be repercussions for missing assignments, etc., in academic courses.
Secondly, we still start hosting after rehearsal study hours in the choir room after extracurricular show choir rehearsals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5-6pm. PLC time from 2:15-3:00pm on Tuesdays will also be study hours. While these will NOT be mandatory for any student, we are encouraging students to utilize this quiet study time to get a jumpstart on homework for the evening. I, personally, will be in the choir room to ensure that these study hours are closely followed. If students are willing to stay and assist other students in a tutoring capacity, we’d love to have you as well!
6.) FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Show Choir takes a VILLAGE in order to properly function and thrive. The following are a few ways in which you or someone you can volunteer time, money, goods, etc., in helping make this season fantastic!
Show Choir Crews:
Tech Crew: There is lots of show band equipment, uniforms, supplies, etc., to move onto our U-Haul, around the competition, and onto/offstage, and we'd love your help making this whole process more manageable. Tech Crew people can help load our U-Haul on Friday evenings, load in to the competitions on Saturday mornings, help load our equipment onto the stage for performances, and load out at the end of the competition.
U-Haul driver: We'd love your help in driving our U-Haul's to and from competitions. This would require your help in receiving the U-Haul from its pick-up location, and driving it to and from competitions early in the morning and later on in the evenings.
Costuming/Tailoring Crew: We'd love your help in making sure that our costumes are well-fitting, repaired, etc., throughout the season! If you're able to donate time to tailoring some of our costumes, performing any necessary repairs at competitions, and helping steam/iron our clothes before/after competitions, please let me know!
Hair/Makeup Crew: If you're talented in helping students achieve the necessary hairstyle and makeup, we'd love your help at competitions making sure that our students look their best!
LNE Music Boosters:
The LNE Music Boosters are a fantastic resource if you or someone you know is able to donate some extra time as well as goods! The LNE Music Boosters put together snack bags for competitions, help organize The Rock (our own show choir competition at LNE), create fundraising opportunities for students and families, and much much more!! Please get into contact with the Boosters through the following avenues in order to get more information!
LNE Fundraising Email (rocketmusicfundraising@gmail.com)
LNE Music Boosters Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/lnemusicboosters)
The Rock Show Choir Competition:
The Rock is our Show Choir competition that we host here at Lincoln Northeast on March 2nd, 2024! This competition is the single biggest fundraiser that we put on throughout the year, and almost single-handedly funds our show choir department for the coming year. Last year, we hosted 24 groups from across Nebraska and Kansas HERE for a fun day of competition, food, and much more! This event TRULY TAKES A VILLAGE, and we need every parent/guardian's help in making this competition a success. Please be on the lookout for The Rock parent meetings in January and February to find out more about how you can help with this spectacular day!
Apparel:
Our LNE Show Choir Apparel store is open once more until Monday, November 20th!! We've got
several options for both Dynamix and VNH apparel so your students, you, family, and friends can all show their support for LNE Show Choirs at competitions and beyond!! https://shirts101.store/lne_show_choir/shop/home
Closing thoughts:
Thank you for taking the time to read through all of our expectations, reminders, etc., and thank you for donating whatever time, goods, and money you may have to make this Show Choir season successful!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me via email or by phone any time!
Have a wonderful week!

Hi Everyone!
If you attended last year's Candlelight Gala Choir Concert of Winter Expressions Band Concert, you'll remember how we were fortunate enough to decorate our stage with poinsettias that were purchased by you, our wonderful supporters, who then got to take them home for their home decorations. This year, we will be hosting the same fundraiser, stocked with even more varieties of poinsettias after last year's success!
This LNE Music Booster fundraiser is now open until Friday, November 3rd for you to purchase these poinsettias! They will be used as decoration for our December 12th and December 14th Vocal and Instrumental Music concerts, at which point you can pick yours up and take them home. Please encourage anyone in your home, family, neighborhood, etc., to help support LNE Music by purchasing a poinsettia!
Orders can be placed at the following link: https://form.jotform.com/232734845104151
Thank you to our LNE Music Boosters for a wonderful fundraising opportunity!
