Still Life with Snacks and Sweets

colored pencil

6th grade classes voted on their favorite snacks and sweets to represent in a still life drawing, then used a digital collage of the chosen foods as a reference image for their drawings. Capturing the fonts and graphics, the reflective surfaces, and precise colors of the objects was challenging, but the effort resulted in very life-like representations and vibrant displays of talent.

Still Life of Taste and Texture

colored pencil

7th grade classes voted on fruits they found visually interesting as subjects for a still life drawing. They worked from a digital collage of the chosen images as a shared reference for their projects. Differentiating the exact hues, textures, and highlights of each fruit was challenging but rewarding. The students' masterful drawings invite viewers to compare and contrast the details of each type of fruit.

Still Life of 2021

colored pencil

8th grade classes voted on objects they believed were symbolic of trends and events in the year 2021. They worked from a digital collage of their chosen objects as a common reference image, but each student chose whether to match the color scheme of the reference image or adapt the colors of each object to express personal taste. The range of objects challenged students to accurately represent a variety of shapes, textures, and surface qualities. The level of detail that resulted from this effort is worth careful study.
