Vinyl Cutter

Plan

For my vinyl cutting project, I chose to personalize my phone case with a beet sticker.

Sticker Materials

Tools

  • Tweezers
  • Stiff squeegee
  • Scissors
  • Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter

Workflow

1. Find a silhouette image.

(I chose this image of a beet to print.)

2. Download the image.

3. Chose an appropriatly sized piece of vinyl to cut your design out of.

(Make sure to check the scrap bin before cutting out a new piece of vinyl.)

4. Insert your downloaded image from above into the Silhouette Cameo Program.

5. Outline your image with the trace feature.

6. Take blue cover off the sticky plastic sheet and attach the vinyl piece.

7. Load the plastic sheet into the cutter.

8. Scale the outline of your image to the vinyl chosen using the grid.

9. Send the design to the Silhouette Cameo.

10. Cut out the design.

11. Unload the plastic sheet and take off the vinyl.

(Remember to put the blue cover back on the plastic sheet after using.)

12. Using the transfer tape, peel your sticker from the remaining vinyl.

(You may need to utilize tweezers to help remove smaller, delicate stickers.)

13. Place your sticker!

Conclusion

When printing my first beet, I scaled the image too small causing the removal of the sticker to be messy and challenging. The stem of my first beet tore off when I initially started to peel it off. In my second design, I designed my beet to be larger to ensure a cleaner result. The beet shown above was the completed design.
