My name is Madison, and I am a second year student in the DDL program with threads in foreign language, education, and linguistics.
For this project, my focus is on the financial side of sustainable eating and ethically sourced food. Once armed with the knowledge of how to eat ethically and sustainably, the next step is to make sure that food is accessible to all of those who wish to consume it. As of current, cheaper food alternatives are often times unethically sourced-- being unethically sourced lends itself to consumables being produced cheaper.
Sustainability is a global issue. A small portion of our population holds a large portion of our wealth, and an even smaller percentage of those households actually eat ethically sourced and sustainable food. If those at the top are the only people who can afford to consistently eat sustainably, we will never be able to actually help the people and animals who produce unethically sourced food. The bottom fifty percent of Americans are people too, and their choices have an impact-- without their help, how will we ever make change?
