A person’s language use says much about how they see themselves, but also reflects how they wish to be perceived by others. 

Whether consciously or not, people often make language choices based on their perception of what is the ‘in-group’ and what is the ‘out-group’. Discuss some of the ways in which language is used to create a sense of belonging.
