Hosts: Frank Weisenberger, Sam Bayley
Date: October 19
Time: 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Abstract: Indigenous people are the stewards of nearly 40% of the world’s intact landscapes that are managed for conservation. Conservation planners have learned many valuable experiences from applying the Conservation Standards (CS) / Healthy Country Planning (HCP) with Indigenous communities. In this session we will explore the unique differences working with Indigenous communities in a cross-cultural environment.
1. The different roles a HCP coach plays when working with Indigenous communities
2. Social and cultural targets in HCP projects – how Indigenous communities around the world determine health.
3. Lessons from coaching / project managing planning projects with Indigenous communities
4. Cross-cultural planning in Canada - Parks Canada’s experience
