Hello Kindergarten Families
We are so excited to be working with y'all for the rest of the year to keep you moving and healthy.
Each week we will put up some activities and a health related lesson for you to do with your kindergartner. You can do these everyday or as often as you want. If you have favorite lessons or activities, you can easily mix those in with the current week's activities. Kindergartners need to be moving for at least 60 minutes a day. That may sound like a lot but kids don't have to move for 60 minutes in a row. You can spread activity throughout the day.
Each week you will find:
A Warm Up
Activities
A Monthly Calendar of ideas to get moving
You can find all the Kindergarten PE lessons here. Each week, we will add a new lesson.
Click here for a list of things you might have at home that can be used for PE.
Dance along with a few of these videos or dance to three of your favorite songs.
I Get Loose Don't Sit Down A Very Simply Dance MILK A Moose-Ta-Cha Pop See Ko Poppin' Bubbles Snow Ninjas Ski Chase I Want to Build a Snowman
Full instructions are in the beginning of the video.
You will need an area for the student to exercise and be able to see the video.
Students will choose either a red, blue, or green dot.
Students will perform the exercise by that color dot until the timer is finished.
Students rest while the dots race around the track.
After the race, the student will do the exercise by his or her dot.
This game practices throwing to a target.
You will need:
1 small or medium box or basket
1 cardboard tube, empty aluminum can, or other light object to prop up the box
1 ball, sock ball, small stuffed animal, or bean bag
Make a mousetrap by propping an upside down box up with a cardboard tube.
Step away from the mousetrap (use a shoe or other object to mark the throwing line).
Throw your sock ball at the item propping up the mousetrap.
The goal is to trap the sock ball under the box.
Challenges
Individual Challenge
Play a song.
How many times can your student trap the mouse and reset the trap before the song ends.
Family or Friend Challenge
Set up two mousetraps.
Place mice (balls) by the mousetraps.
Take a few steps away from the mousetrap. Use shoe or other item to mark the throwing line.
Before student can throw the mouse, he or she must run in place while counting to 10.
Students could also do 10 jumping jacks or other movement instead of running in place.
After running in place and counting to 10, student can run to get mouse, return to the throwing line and try to throw/bowl/slide the mouse into the trap
The first one to trap their mouse is the winner.
How else can you make this a fun challenge? Show us on the Flipgrid.
You will need:
A Target - a hula hoop, a towel, a pillow case, a large t-shirt
5-10 Items - sock balls, bean bags, stuffed animals, shoes, rags tied in a knot, etc. ...
Place items on the target.
Decide where you student will throw from. Mark the throwing line with a shoe or other item.
Choose one item to throw at the other items on the target.
Exhange
Throw item on target.
If student lands item on the target, he or she gets to bring back a different item from the target to throw.
Play a song and see how many different items student can exchange before the music stops.
Clean Up
Throw item on target.
If student lands item on the target, he or she can bring that item and the item they threw back to the throwing line.
Keep going until all the items have been cleaned up from the target.
How fast can the student get all the items off the target?
Learning how to tie a shoe gives students confidence, independence,
and more time to participate in PE and other activities.
Click here for five different shoe tying methods. The first way is the traditional way
and will work with the most laces and the most shoes.
Help your student chose the one that works best for them and then practice at least four times a day.
