To support academic honesty extended writing assignments are screened through Turnitin for plagiarism. High school students have strict plagiarism expectations, however. we take a softer approach with our K-8 students as many are still learning the writing process.
Turnitin is optional for elementary students, however, it may be helpful to screen upper grade elementary writing. Middle School and High School student work is screened through Turnitin and student infractions follow CalPac's plagiarism policy starting with the second offense.

There will be a student assembly on plagiarism at the beginning of the year and teachers should review this concept with students as necessary. Again, the goal is to inform students what plagiarism is and support them in avoiding plagiarism in their writing.
Use your best judgment with Turnitin and its relevance to your grade level students. Instructions on using Turnitin are to the right.
We have access to the following schoolwide subscriptions to supplement live sessions and LMS work. Feel free to use any of these with your students. Almost all are single sign in using school Google accounts.

Khan Academy is a great resource to supplement tutoring sessions and concepts students are struggling on. You can assign Khan Academy lessons through Google Classroom and students can access Khan Academy with their school email accounts.

The GALE resource library houses a plethora of nonfiction articles, texts, and other sources to help students with their research projects. You can use the search features in GALE to filter by grade and reading level.
You may want to use GALE for nonfiction reading practice and to support upper grades with any research projects they have in Odysseyware.

This is an awesome tool that allows you to easy take screenshots, add text, and record short clips. It is a huge timesaver when sending snapshots of progress to students and parents. It has become a daily tool for many teachers!

This tool reads aloud any web page or PDF open in a browser window for students. All students need to do is add the app to their browser and then hit the microphone to read the text on the screen. Encourage students to use it with reading PDFs in their courses.

This tool allows you to record video clips, and it is added as a Chrome extension. In fact, we used it several time in this training! If many of your students are struggling with something, like entering activities in their logs, you can do a quick video to send to them. It saves the video in your google drive, and you just have to make it public and share with your students. Very easy!

We don't know why, but students love seeing these in our emails! It brings a little more of a personal touch. Feel free to create your own character, add the bitmoji to your Google Chrome bar, and use it in your emails to families. It also is a fun way to add a "sticker" to student work.
