FLVS Teacher Resource Implementation Packet
You will need to access FLVS through each scope in the SIS. Make sure to go to all scopes.
In the SIS go to the Teachers tab > CMS Classroom Management and select LMS - Learning Management from the options. This will launch the Buzz platform and display your FLVS courses.
***Note: When you first log into Buzz it will ask you to complete a user agreement. Scroll down to the bottom to do so. Keep in mind that students will need to complete this same agreement as well and may need help.
Select how you want to use Buzz (Teacher or Observer). You will mostly be working in the teacher view. The observer view is how you will view homeroom students work in classes you do not teach.
*NOTE: You can toggle between roles by clicking your name in the top right corner.
Note: This page will only display courses for the classes you are teaching in FLVS.
You can access course activities and materials to see what students are learning in the class. This is also where you can find live session powerpoints and other teacher course resources.
From the landing page either click the hamburger in the top left corner, open the navigation pane, and choose courses or click on the course tile you want to work in.
Once you choose the course go back to the hamburger and select Activities.
This is the same place you will go to access the gradebook, people, and editor functions for a course. These are the four functions you will use most regularly with your FLVS courses.
Once you open up activities you can expand any of the folders to see the course content.
The eTeacher Guide folder provides course info, live session PowerPoints and other resources to help you teach the course. This folder is only visible to you.
The other folders launch the FLVS curriculum for students to work in.
You can return to the activities option to move to different parts of the course.
***Note: Students will only complete the first half of the course first semester and the second half of the course second semester. However, all lessons will show up in the table of contents of the lessons material section of the course.
You can click through the FLVS curriculum using the green arrows in the top right corner. This is the same view the students will see.
Different icons will display throughout the lessons indicating whether or not students need to do a certain type of activity. The print icon indicates the student has a packet assignment to complete.
Clicking on the resource icon in a class will open up all workbook activities and other materials.
The gradebook is where you can grade student work, adjust scores, skip assignments, and export csv grade reports.
Navigate to the Gradebook tool with the Main Menu. Grades provides a table view of students (rows), activities (columns), and each student's score on each graded activity in the intersecting cells. You can:
Click Display Options in the toolbar to choose the columns and other display details you want on the screen.
Click Enable quick-edit grading in the toolbar to enter scores directly into the Grades table.
Click Tools to Import Scores, Export Scores, and Go to final grades.
Click a student to see and/or print their individual gradebook information.
Click an assignment to open the Activity Grader for that assignment.
Click a specific cell to open the Grade Editor for a particular student activity.
There are two options for grading assignments. Pick the one that works best for you.
When you open the grading pane you will have the option to leave feedback, use a rubric, and leave audio comments. You will also have the option to enter in a score or click the full credit icon. Assignments should have a point value assigned to them when you open the grading pane. Use your best judgement when grading assignments.
Option 1: Landing Page Alerts
You can grade assignments as they come in by clicking on the Needs Grading icon on the landing page.
Option 2: Grade from the Gradebook
Use the gradebook to grade assignment submissions. Student submissions will show up as a paper icon. Click on the icon to open it up and assign a score. Light red boxes means that assignment was turned in past the due date. We do not doc students for late work. For more information click here.
Use the People tool to create and manage groups and filter students. This is helpful for grouping by progress and other filter options. Navigate to the People tool using the Main Menu.
Click the funnel (filter) icon to show/hide a menu that allows you to filter by:
Student Name
Quick list or group of students
Minimum score and Maximum score
Minimum progress and Maximum progress
Critical students, meaning students who have failed 2 of their last five submissions or they are failing the course, and/or have 30% or more of gradable items past due.
You can use groups to connect students according to performance, send group messages, assign group activities, create quick group intervention tasks, assign group grades, award group badges, and filter your list views with them. Groups are what you will use to customize course settings for students with IEPs and 504 plans and adjust courses for late start students as well.

Since this is the first year using FLVS you may come across assignments that need to be skipped. Please use your best judgement and communicate to students.
