We have a fabulous Special Education team!!! They are dedicated to our wonderful students, and they work hard to support them in all levels of their education. As a general education teacher, please support our SpEd team and follow the recommendations and guidelines outlined in the student's IEP.
All of our Special Education students are assigned an Education Specialist Case Manager. You can see who the Case Manager is on the student dashboard and on the Student Info Sheet. The SIS provider is listed on the student's dashboard under "staff associations" on the right-hand side. Please cc the Education Specialist provider on important communications regarding pacing, progress, and attendance.
To see if your student has an IEP or the details of their IEP, go to their dashboard. Next to his/her name, there will be a royal blue-colored star if he/she has an IEP. You can click on the star for more information.
ALL teachers for the student will be required to fill out the IEP form, but only homeroom teachers will be required to attend the IEP.
Prior to an IEP, the Education Specialist provider will send a communication form to the homeroom teacher and all content teachers to fill out, and it will need to be completed at least 24 hours prior to the IEP. Please be detailed in your report so the homeroom teacher is able to accurately report on the progress of the student. Below is a blank form and a sample completed form. Please review the example so you know how much detail to include and what information the Education Specialist providers need included in your report.
Homeroom teachers will be asked to attend IEP meetings for students in their homeroom.
You MUST attend the IEP meetings as it is required that a general education representative be in attendance. You are expected to attend all IEP meetings for which you receive an invite, but if for some reason you cannot attend you must notify the Education Specialist (case manager) and Ericka Zemmer (ezemmer@cal-pacs.org) immediately after the invite is sent.
IEP meetings are held in Zoom. Please be prepared to be on camera throughout the duration of the meeting. The case manger will lead the meeting. You may remain on mute until it is your time to provide input or otherwise participate in the conversation.
Please come prepared and have the student's communication form and most up-to-date progress in FLVS/OW/EDGENUITY open.
Provide any relevant information pertaining to the student's success in their classes, and make any appropriate recommendations.
You need to stay for the duration of the IEP meeting as you are the general education teacher of record.
If you have any concerns about students with an IEP, please talk with the Case Manager. They will be meeting with them for the appropriate amount of minutes as stated in their IEP so they will be able to give you insight into appropriate accommodations.
