Now you see me...now you don't! This was a cool experiment to see how particles can come together
For this I wanted a cool cyber effect where the user disintegrates and then reintegrates back into the original form but with different colors to resemble a change in character.
I drafted two different concepts I wanted to try using the same color palette. Ultimately, I liked the idea of disintegration more as it would look more impressive and be more of a challenge, so I went with that to build out in engine.
The idea was to stack two emitters over time and have them spaced evenly at 10 seconds apart on the timeline, but each will carry their own color.
To start, I needed to add a skeletal mesh for the effect to reference in terms of spatial data.
To get the particles to become attracted to the skeletal mesh, I added...well, you guessed it - point attraction! I also change the curve a bit to match the effect I wanted from it.
To add some variation in how the points move to and from the attraction point, I added a curl noise and messed around with the curve values until I found something I liked.
I wanted to do a little extra by adding a blueprint and creating a dynamic material that switches the skeletal mesh materials out to match those of the VFX for some visual flavor.
I found joy in creating this project and realized that an effect that looks complicated doesn't actually need to be built in a complicated way to achieve the desired effect.
