How ASB Leaders Support the CASL Mission Statement
Bellflower Middle/High School Associated Student Body student leaders support the CASL Mission Statement of ethical, responsible, and servant leaders by demonstrating the 5 characteristics of Buc P(positivity).R(respect).I(integrity).D(dedication).E(excellence). all day, every day.
Before the school year began, our leaders stayed connected. Weeks before school started, we met during our ASB Camp at Lions Camp at Teresita Pines, where we bonded and reconnected with new classmates. During Camp, the executive board informed our Change Agents of what the year could potentially look like. We introduced them to the CADA/CASL roadmap and stressed the importance of keeping these checkpoints in mind while creating activities. We worked in groups to get to know each other and discuss what the school would look like, feel like, and sound like if each idea was executed correctly and thoroughly. We then created goals and discussed how we would meet them. This school year our Change Agents worked hard to introduce new, fun ideas while also trying to bring back normal traditions after recently coming from a year of virtual learning. We are ensuring that we display what it means to be ethical, responsible, and servant leaders. As leaders on campus, we recognize that we have to create a great school culture and environment while acting as role models to the school and community. Our goal is not only to be the nicest kids but also to be the encouraging and inspiring students in order to make school a welcoming and safe place for all students and staffulty.
This past year our Bucs have attended several conferences. We have several leaders who are aware of the CADA Area E Conference and have attended on multiple occasions. We previously sent several of our leaders to attend the CASL Conference in San Jose in 2019. The past two years due to Covid-19 we were stopped from attending the 2020 and 2021 CASL Conference in person. Although we couldn’t be there physically, it gave us the opportunity to allow all of our Change Agents to attend virtually. This school year, we attended a training hosted by Keith Hawkins, which focused on student leadership and shaping students into becoming the best version of themselves. This was not only a great training experience but also an amazing bonding opportunity for all of our Change Agents. These conferences have inspired us with ideas and how to apply them at our school. They have helped us grow into stronger leaders with a better understanding of leadership.
In addition to learning from these conferences and applying them on our campus, we also love to hear any feedback from our student population and staffulty. Our leaders work extremely hard to be effective, and we constantly encourage our Bucs to serve and support the school and the community by getting them involved in school projects. One project this year that shines above all of them is Fall Fest mainly because of the club participation and amazing outcome. There were over 1,000 attendees who came and enjoyed this festival with their loved ones.
Over the past few years, Bellflower Middle/High School has been involved in CASL, and as a result, we have transformed into a program that prioritizes encouraging diversity, creating connections with our community, building character, and helping strengthen our Change Agents into leaders of our future world.
