BUCKEYE JUNIOR HIGH PARENT NEWS

MAY 2020

LAST DAY OF INSTRUCTION

As Mr Morgan already announced, we will be closing our instructional year on Friday. Please remind your child the importance of finishing strong. Teachers will be working with students through Zoom and email, but grade books will officially close on May 28th. Grades Cards will not be mailed home, rather you can view your child’s final grade on Progress Book beginning June 5th.

COLLECTION OF DEVICES & BOOKS & YEARBOOK PASS OUT

In our efforts to collect computers, cords, library books, history books and Language Arts novels, we will be conducting a drive thru drop off system. Please enter the drive through and display a piece of paper indicating your child’s last name. This will assist our staff. If you find your family uses two different last names, feel free to choose one and drop all your children’s materials off at one time. We are hoping for nice weather and hope to run 2 drop off lines for your convenience in our front lot. Enter our lot from Wolff Road and exit to Columbia. Teachers and staff will approach your car, collect materials and pass out yearbooks if you ordered one. You nor your student will be asked to leave your car; masks are encouraged. The schedule for your child’s drop off is listed below.

Completing the Device Return Form before arrival will make the process more efficient, but we will provide copies as needed. Please bring your own writing utensil.

ATHLETICS

Mr. Harrington has been very busy keeping our athletes informed about what to expect through Final Forms. His Frequently Asked Questions is very informative. Remind your child that eligibility for Fall sports is determined by the current 4th quarter grades. Fall athletes must pass a total of 5 classes in the 4th quarter of the previous year.

VIRTUAL ART SHOW

Mrs. Raeke has worked hard to highlight her art students. She has digitized her art student's work from the past year into a video. Please click below to see the art show.

Washington DC Refunds

Families affected by the cancelation our DC trip can expect a full refund of funds paid for this trip. If school fees or fines are due, the refund will be less the fee and/or fine amount. You can see if your child has school fees or fines assessed on Progress Book or Pay For It. We expect all refunds for students and chaperones to be processed before the end of June.

Cleveland Trip Refunds

Refunds for the 7th grade field trip have been processed. If you did not see the full refund returned, you can see an accounting of fees and fines on Progress Book to explain why less money may have been refunded.

2020-2021 SCHEDULES

As of today, we do not have guidance from the Governor about safety standards for schools in the Fall. That being said, I continue to plan for your children to return to us safely in the Fall. Currently, we are planning to welcome 8th graders into the building on August 12th to pick up schedules. You can be sure that more communication will be shared as parameters and protocols are outlined moving forward.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR 2020-2021

School supply lists will be published soon and you will be hearing more about an opportunity to order supplies and have them delivered and ready for your children at school at a cost competitive with buying in a store. Again, I am planning for a normal start to school in the Fall, but as we all know this situation is unfolding as we speak. Student safety is our number one priority.
