August 14, 2020 update

Updates

Greetings!

I hope you are weathering this storm well.

I am super excited to greet teachers on Monday! We have big plans to set the building up to greet your child in any way that we can.

While we will not be able to invite 7th graders into the building for a tour, we will be communicating a virtual orientation for your students within the next couple of weeks. More information to come soon!

All the best as you enjoy the last weeks of Summer!

Shannon Conley-Kurjian, Principal Buckeye Junior High

Virtual Learning Academy

This version of back to school begins and ends online. You and your child would be making a semester commitment to learning online with a district issued computer from Buckeye teachers.

Your child would be provided with a Google Meet link via the teacher's Google Classroom to attend class virtually at the time class is scheduled with face to face students. You can see your student's schedule online on Progressbook and the bell schedule is here.

Google Classrooms and Google Meet links will be sent before August 31st via email from teachers.

To sign up for this option, please fill out this form before August 14th at Midnight.

Immunizations

Updated immunizations for 7th graders need to be on file for all students if they are registered as a student of Buckeye. If your child is signed up for the Virtual Learning Academy, we will need an updated Immunization Record in the student file at the Junior High.

Schedule Availability

Schedules will be available on Tuesday, August 18th via Progressbook. You can log into your account and see your student's schedule. Lunches will not appear on the schedule but you can be assured that everyone will have a lunch in their day.

To access Progressbook, you must have Registration Gateway updated.

All schedules are set in stone and can only be changed if there is an error in the schedule. For instance, if you missing a Math class, we will fix that. We can only change schedules due to error. No other requests can be honored.

We have every class period balanced to maintain safety protocols and schedule changes cannot be honored.

Band and Choir

Honestly, scheduling Band and Choir was the most difficult task to address within safety protocols. Regulations for singing and instruments are very stringent.

Unfortunately, given the constraints I cannot offer band or choir to 7th grade.

Because 8th graders participate in Marching Band, I am able to keep 8th grade band in student's schedules by sending them to the High School for band.

Please know that next year a 7th and 8th grade music program will be in place to address growth in the program as long as safety guidelines have changed.

Electives

Due to Covid-19 compliance, it is unfortunate that the Junior High is only able to offer the following electives. It is my commitment to this community to bring back our rich elective offerings next year as long as safety guidelines have changed.

All 7th grade students will take Health/PE and Project Lead the Way.

8th grade students will be assigned to Art, Music or a General Elective. Sadly, Spanish will only be offered to your 8th grader when they become Ninth graders next year. Spanish is not being offered to junior high students this year.

All students will have a study hall.
