August 5, 2020 update

Change is constant

In an attempt to keep you informed, I created this Updated August Newsletter page to help navigate the decisions that have been made this week.

If you read no further, please update Registration Gateway, remind students to complete Summer Reading and know that school supply lists can be found on the August 2020 page listed in the sidebar.

I know we are getting a little wary in the uncertainty, but please know that I am in this with you and for you.

Buckeye Virtual Academy Updates

This version of back to school begins and ends online. You and your child would be making a semester commitment to learning online with a district issued computer from Buckeye teachers. Your child would have online communication with Buckeye teachers and would not enter the building. Because we do not know our enrollment yet, it is difficult to communicate what this version of Junior High School would look like. More information will be available after August 14th.

To sign up for this option, please fill out this form before August 14th.

As it currently stands, (remember lots of moving parts) if your child signs up for the Virtual Academy, and BLS moves to Remote Learning, your child's schedule MIGHT change. Teachers will remain the same, but teacher meeting times may need to shift.

If you have already signed up for the Virtual Academy and have changed your mind, please fill out this form before August 14th and I will follow up with you to confirm your child’s withdrawal from the Virtual Academy and entrance into traditional Buckeye Junior High status.

Remote Learning Updates

If Medina County is labeled Red on August 17, Buckeye Local Schools will return to school in Remote Learning.

Students will pick up their computers, school supplies (if pre-ordered) and planners on August 27 and 28. This pick will operate similar to drop off in the Spring. Parents will drive to the front of the building and remain in the car. A staff member will come to the car, take your name, check that Registration Gateway has been updated and if updated, your child will be issued a computer and planners and pre-ordered supplies will be handed to you in the car. Times for the pick will be published later (this won't be the last update I provide).

The Remote Learning version of your child's education will continue until the county has been in Level 2 (Orange) for 14 consecutive days. At the conclusion of 14 days and as long as the county remains in Level 2 (Orange) we will return to school.

In the remote setting, your child will attend school online in synchronous learning from 8:00 - 11:00. Students and teachers will login and attend online class according to a fixed schedule on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Students will also attend intervention and enrichment groups as scheduled by teachers in the afternoons on those days. Wednesday will be reserved for Office Hours and small group instruction as needed.

Face to Face Updates

If Medina County is labeled Level 2 (Orange) on August 17 and remains in Orange through August 31, Buckeye Local Schools will return to school face to face.

We will have a soft open using the following schedule.

Aug 31 and Sept 1: Students with last names beginning with A - L will attend the JH. If your student needs a bus, please OPT-IN for transportation with this form. If you plan to drop your student off, please OPT-OUT of transportation using this form. If you plan to drop your student off and pick them up, see below for additional information.

Sept 2 and Sept 3: Students with last names beginning with M - Z will attend the JH. If your student needs a bus, please OPT-IN for transportation with this form. If you plan to drop your student off, please OPT-OUT of transportation using this form. If you plan to drop your student off and pick them up, see below for additional information.

Sept 4: Students do not attend school. Staff will address any building issues we observed in our safety protocols as students were in the building.

Sept. 8: If Medina County is still in Level 2 (Orange), all students will attend school face to face.
