Wellbeing is an integral focus within Middle Phase and plays an important role in supporting students throughout their development and transition through the school.
We recognise that when students feel happy, supported, and positive about themselves and their experiences, they are more likely to develop confidence, resilience, positive relationships, and the ability to successfully manage challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
Our priority is to nurture and support students throughout their time in Middle Phase. We believe that strong wellbeing and pastoral support not only promotes academic achievement, but also supports students’ overall personal development and helps create a positive and caring school culture.
Pastoral care within Middle Phase is supported through:
Tutors
Year Leads
Assistant Phase Coordinator
Assistant Head Teacher (Pastoral)
Subject teachers
Wider student support systems
Students are encouraged to speak to staff whenever they may need support, guidance, or reassurance, whether related to friendships, organisation, wellbeing, worries, or any other aspect of school life.
Our holistic pastoral approach is further strengthened through systems such as our soft start to the school day and the use of the Komodo wellbeing platform, which help provide students with regular opportunities for reflection, communication, and wellbeing support.
Within Middle Phase, we place a strong emphasis on helping students develop:
Confidence
Resilience
Independence
Emotional wellbeing
Reflection and self awareness
Positive relationships and communication skills
Wellbeing is embedded throughout daily school life, particularly within Tutor Time sessions, assemblies, wellbeing activities, and our wider Core Value system.
As a pastoral team, we are always readily available to speak with students about any issues, concerns, or worries they may have. We also recognise the importance of strong communication between home and school, and families are always encouraged to contact the pastoral team should they require support or guidance.
Our aim is for every student to feel known, valued, supported, and proud to be part of the Middle Phase community.
