New scout hut

(1 September 2022)

From September, all sections of the Central Brussels Scouts have a new home at the lovely Parc Parmentier!

This location is ideal for scouting activities - a park surrounded by trees with the possibility of doing open fires. We will have our own "scout hut" which has a toilet, running water, an indoor heated space and quite a large covered area so we can be inside when cold and still be outside when raining if we so wish. The hut is easily accessible by car and also by tram. A two-minute walk up a path from the de Villalobar 39 and 44 tram stop (the one after the tram museum when coming from town) takes you directly to the hut. A plan of the site is included below.

Part of Parc Parmentier was given to Abbot Edouard Froidure in 1933 who founded the "Stations de plein air" with the aim of helping youth in precarious situations - today the parc houses a school, a number of NGOs and is used by a couple of Belgian scout units on weekends. It will offer the possibility for our scouts to work towards community badges, e.g. by helping keep the site clean/in good condition by giving it a lick of paint, and do some volunteering with some of the NGOs.

We are really excited about this move which I hope you agree is fully in line with what scouting is about!

Our sections will meet as follows from mid-September:

  • Beavers will meet from 18:00 to 19:15 on a Wednesday at Parc Parmentier

  • Cubs will meet from 18:30 to 20:00 on a Tuesday at Parc Parmentier

  • Scouts will meet from 18:15 to 20:15 on a Thursday at Parc Parmentier
