Financial Aid Information

Financial Aid can be a confusing part of the college application process but it doesn't have to be! Each winter, we host an on-site workshop with a financial aid officer from an area college. They present important information and answer questions for seniors and their parents. Look under the "Stuff of Interest" section of the website for more information and dates. In addition, there are a variety of other resources for you when it comes to financial aid. The Financial Aid office at the college you hope to attend are your best and most qualified resource to get you exactly the information you need. It would also be a good idea to visit the information FAFSA website:

                        http://studentaid.ed.gov/

This website has advice, information on the FAFSA form, deadlines and even tips on managing loans. The preferred deadline for most colleges is to complete the FAFSA by March 1st.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Filling out the FAFSA form for financial aid should never have a cost associated with it! If a website is asking for a fee, it probably isn't the real FAFSA website. Make sure you are completing the FAFSA from the official website - http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ - this is a free service provided by the federal government.

FINANCIAL AID PRESENTATIONS:

GVSU comes to Black River to do FAFSA Night presentations for seniors & their parents. This year's presentation will be on:

TBD - once the FAFSA release date has been decided upon, we will set one up - likely in January

Flyers will be sent home directly to senior parents a couple of weeks before the event.

Important Links:

Net Price Calculator Center: The Federal government now requires all colleges to provide a Net Price calculator - it provides an estimated net price to attend their institution based on your GPA, ACT, and income. They can sometimes be difficult to locate on college websites. Visit the governments search center and easily locate and link to any Net Price Calculator in the US! Visit https://collegecost.ed.gov/net-price
