¡Hola a todxs! Me llamo Ahjeetha Shankar. Yo soy de Brookfield, CT y soy un "double concentrator" en la Neurociencia y las Literaturas & Culturas Hispanas.

En adición a mi trabajo académico con español en la aula, yo he utilizado español en otros papeles como Co-Presidente de CareFree Clinic y Departmental Undergraduate Group (DUG) Leader de Hispanic Studies en Brown.

Actualmente, yo puedo hablar en cuatro idiomas: inglés, español, tamil, y telugu. Me encanta el aprendizaje de idiomas y yo tengo como objetivo a continuamente mejorar mis habilidades multilingües para volverse a una ciudadana más culta y compasiva en nuestra sociedad global. Como una doctora en el futuro, yo deseo a usar mi multilingüismo para fomentar comodidad y confianza en mis pacientes.

Después de mi tiempo como un estudiante de grado en Brown University, yo estoy muy emocionada a asistir a Johns Hopkins School of Medicine por los próximos años.

As a Hispanic Studies (HISP) DUG leader, I worked with fellow DUG leaders to coordinate events for the HISP department to cultivate a sense of community—which has been especially important during the pandemic. From movie screenings to student-faculty meet and greets to Zoom dance lessons, our events have allowed Brown students and faculty to bond over a shared love of Spanish. My fellow DUG leaders and I also led fundraising initiatives to assist the Providence community during COVID. For example, in the Summer of 2020, we helped launch a global fundraiser with Apple which raised $1,365 for the Providence Refugee Dream Center. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work closely with so many amazing members of the HISP department and the greater Providence community. I will always think back on my time in this position fondly.
