Do teachers go to college?
1. Yes! Teachers go to college so that we can learn how to teach you! Plus we have to learn a lot about the subjects we teach.
What do teachers like?
2. I like a lot of things. I like to read, listen to music, watch Netflix, and hang out with my friends and family.
How long do you have to study?
3. Usually teachers go to school for 4 years to get a Bachelor’s degree, but I went for an extra year and got my Master’s degree.
Who was your favorite teacher?
4. My favorite teacher was one of my high school social studies teachers. He made history interesting, and I really got along with him. He’s part of the reason why I became a teacher.
How old are you?
5. I’m 23, but I’ll be 24 in May.
Do you have to do a lot of work?
6. I work quite a bit more than my students think! They know I have to plan for school every day, and grade a lot of work. There is more! Teachers have lots and lots of meetings and we have to know a lot about our students to help them learn. We also have to stay after school to help with activities, tutor, or even work on our rooms!
Are you proud to be a teacher?
7. Teaching is really hard some days, but I really do love it and I’m proud of all of the work I have done.
Do you have to be a teacher?
8. I don’t HAVE to be a teacher, but I don’t know what else I would be!
Do you have to be pretty to be a teacher?
9. Being a teacher has nothing to do with being pretty! Anyone can be a teacher! Looks are not important. What is important is hard work, being an good listener, caring about your students, and loving to learn. Teachers learn every day, and it never stops!
Do you have to be strong to be a teacher?
10. I would say that it does take a strong person to be a teacher. But not physically strong - mentally strong! Like I said before, you have to be ready to learn every day: information about students and the topics you teach, new activities, and all kinds of other things! When I’m teaching, I’m usually thinking about 5 different things at once!
Do you have to be brave?
11. I used to be so scared of speaking in front of people or crowds. I was so scared of embarrassing myself. After teaching though, it’s hard for me to even get embarrassed! I can talk in front of people all the time now. I still get nervous around new people, but it’s easier because I know that I have done it before.
Do you have to be good?
12. I think it is important for teachers to be good so that we set a good example for our students. Teachers care a lot about our kids, and we try to always do good things for them.
Do you have to write a lot?
13. I do write a lot! I have to write lessons, worksheets, tests, projects, rubrics, emails, reflections, plus assignments from my principals to make me a better teacher. I write several times a DAY.
Do you have to do a lot of math?
14. I do math every day when I’m grading or planning certain projects. Or boring adult stuff like taxes, bills, and budgeting (pay attention to math in school!)
How are you mean to students?
15. Some students think I am mean when I really am just trying to help them without them realizing it. Or they think I am being nicer to other kids than them, but really, just some kids need extra help or more attention from teachers and it isn’t because I like them more. Teachers have to make hard choices, and students don’t always know why we make those choices.
How are you kind to kids?
16. I try to learn as much as I can about my students! I think they are funny, creative, and strong people. I listen to their stories, and try to remember what they tell me. I try to tell them about me, so they know they can trust me. I also try really hard to give them whatever they need to learn.
How can you be the best teacher?
17. I’m still learning how to be the best teacher!
