How long do you practice?
I practice for 30 minutes, at least once a day. I plan what I'm going to practice based on what physical skills I need to improve, and what music I need to perform soon.
How do you know when to play?
A drummer knows when to play based on rehearsals. You and the band figure it out by practicing the song. Because the drummer determines how fast the song goes, sometimes it helps to have the drummer start before the other members of the band begin their parts of the song.
How do you know when to follow the other musicians?
Same answer for following. You rehearse. But when you and your band know each other really well, you can improvise and they'll know your style so well, that they can hop in and out of a song.
How do you do concerts?
Concerts are about finding places to perform that feature your style of music. You call places that have bands perform regularly and figure out if they want to have your band come play on certain nights. After you get a place to perform, you have to advertise the show online and in real life with flyers and cool t shirts
Who are your favorite drummers?
My favorite drummer is Quest Love, from The Roots. He's not just a drummer, he's the leader of the band and helps guide their style and sound on every song.
