My name is Andrew and I'm a biomedical scientist.
Q1: To become a scientist you have to take science courses in university. There are many types of sciences and it is up to you to decide which is your favorite and which you want to study in school.
Q2: You make pretty good money, and this can be different depending on where you work and what you do. Money isn't everything though, because you should enjoy your job.
Q3: I can tell you that to be a scientist, you have to be willing to study hard and put a lot of time into it. The rest is up to you to make your dream a reality.
Q4: I wish! Actually as a scientist, I have to know how to make chemical solutions. I have to know what chemicals are safe to mix together, so things don't explode (or cause a mess in my lab). Safety is the most important!
Q5: I guess I could say that I'm brave, but I'm only human and sometimes I need help from others to accomplish my tasks.
Q6: I like to think that I'm smart, but there's always something to learn when you are a scientist. You get a little smarter everyday.
Q7: It depends on what you mean by good, haha. Yes I do have to know what I'm doing at work and I have to make sure that my work is good.
Q8: Yes. I have to write quite a lot, especially when I'm writing laboratory reports with results. And yes There is a lot of math involved. Many lab tests in my field involve calculations in order to get results. Lab experimenting is fun but there is always a math part.
Q9: I'm a Medical Scientist, so I test people's blood. When people don't feel well they go to get their blood taken at their Doctors office. I am responsible for doing all the lab tests on the blood that we receive. We can test for all sorts of things found in your blood, like sugar and salt. We use microscopes a lot to be able to see your body's cells close up and help the doctor figure out what's making you sick. It's really cool and interesting.
Q10: Some scientists have to travel depending on what science they practice. I'm lucky because the only place I have to go to is the laboratory that i work at.
Q11: Yes! Reading is very important especially when we are learning about new lab tests and new tools that we use in the lab. It also helps us have a better understanding of the tests that we are doing. Reading is always part of being a scientist. Hope this helps!
