How brave do you have to be?
You have to be pretty brave. The bravery comes from seeing what you’re doing as a police officer will help build your confidence and bravery. Such as helping those who can’t help themselves. You’ll get your bravery being committed to those acts to help other people. You’ll essentially get your bravery over time and seeing the good you can do as a police officer.
Why do you like being a police officer?
It’s a job for those who enjoy excitement, along with helping others solve problems. Also your day is never the same, you’ll learn, and deal with different problems and come up with different solutions. It’s also a job that comes with great responsibility and lots of respect. You’ll have the feeling of making a difference within your community.
Did you have to go to college? // Do you have to be smart?
I would say that the education background wouldn’t rely so much on being “booksmart” but being street smart. Learning how to deal with problems with a hands on approach -- a small amount of what you do as a police officer comes from a book. You will learn 99% of what you do from getting out there and going through the events. No college is required for becoming a police officer but it helps a lot. Learning the terminology (words) of law enforcement is a big step, and its helpful to have an idea before you get into it.
What is the best part about your job?
The best part would be dealing/handling the public along with never knowing what is going to be happening the next day. There is a lot to see and learn and it ultimately makes you a better person.
How do you become a police officer?
It took me a little to figure out what I wanted to do. I chose to go to a career fair (where you learn about different careers!) and came across being police officer. I took the next steps of taking classes, applied and went to the police academy after I was hired.
