Why do you use water spray?
We use water for a few reasons to put out fires. It is good at putting out fire, it does not cost a lot of money, and it is really easy work with and get.
Why do firemen have a fire truck?
Our fire trucks are like big tool boxes. All of our equipment is on the truck. We can get to where someone is hurt and help them with all of our tools on the truck.
How strong do you have to be?
We do a lot of physical work, you need to be really strong. Some of the ladder we use are 60 pounds and we need to be able to pick them up and put them up all by ourselves. The air packs we wear are about 30 pounds. We wear the air packs so we have clean air to breath when we are in smoke. They have bottles on them with a lot of air inside, so we can breath about 20 minuets while working.
How do you spray water out of the hose?
The water comes out of the hose from the pump on the engine. The engine takes it from the fire hydrant, and the engine has a pump, which can push the water to us faster. Sometimes the hydrant is powerful enough that it can push the water by itself.
How brave do you have to be?
I became a firefighter because I wanted to be able to help people, and I wanted to be able to do something active for a career. I like being outside and being a firefighter lets me be outside a lot and help people
