Jesse & Mazai's Home Crafts for Kids

For our CAS Project, we created videos to help parents and children stay engaged and entertained during quarantine. The main purpose was to inspire and encourage creativity and non-electronic activity at a time when many younger students are bored at home. We hope that this project will motivate kids to take on more crafts, and perhaps help parents find fun things to do as a family.

As part of his Creativity Activity Service (C.A.S.) Project, Mazai ‘20 explains how to create Play-Doh from basic household ingredients! The ingredient list is as follows:

  1. ½ cup of salt

  2. ½ cup of water

  3. 1 cup of flour

  4. Bowl for mixing

  5. Utensil for mixing

  6. Food coloring (optional)

Preparation: Lay down some newspaper since this can get messy!

  1. Pour your one cup of flour into the bowl.

  2. Pour your ½ up of salt into the bowl.

  3. Pour your ½ cup of water in the bowl.

  4. Mix! Use a utensil until it gets doughy enough to use your hands, then use your hands.

  5. (optional): Pour in two to three drops of food coloring, then mix it in. Now you’ve got your Play-Doh!

Storage: If you need to store it, wrap it in plastic wrap and it will last you up to a week!

As part of his Creativity Activity Service (C.A.S.) Project, Jesse ‘20 explains how to fold a fast paper plane!

  1. Grab a regular size sheet of blank paper (8.5 x 11 inches).

  2. Fold your paper in half hot-dog style. Push it down to make a crease, then unfold.

  3. Fold the top right and left corners of the paper towards the middle so they touch.

  4. Fold the diagonal parts which you just folded in towards the middle so they touch.

  5. Fold the entire plane in half again hot-dog style, like you did in step one.

  6. Fold the top of each side away from the other side to make the wings.

  7. Fly away!
