Presented by the Book Club, an SLA which meets to discuss literature and current events, this will be an action-packed event about the wonders and joys of literature! There will be exciting presentations by students in our community about their experiences both reading and writing. Student literature will be performed. We will discuss the decline in reading as students grow older, particularly at the high school level. There will be book recommendations based off of kids’ books as well!
This project was launched to explore the ways in which bullying manifests within the Brooklyn Friends Community both on campus or online. Using data collected from a survey of Upper School students, the goal of this project is to create practical solutions that help reduce the impact of bullying within our community.
Hip-Hop is a sacred art form and as a community we want to celebrate and engage with its legacy. It started as a revolutionary social movement that promoted friendly competition and communal elevation while also challenging the systems that had failed and suppressed the lower class. Now Hip-Hop is a multi-million dollar medium. Like jazz, spoken word and other art rooted in African traditions, Hip-Hop continues to be an outlet for the voices of millions who spread stories, philosophies, theories, folklore, and secrets of the world to the next generation through oral tradition. Presented by the Hip-Hop SLA, this C.A.S. presentation will be a crash course on Hip-Hop and a brief discussion on it’s importance to youth, community, and society. This event will feature a cypher, a series of interviews on Hip-Hop's influence, and a brief discussion on the pros and cons of it's history. Join us as we spread the message and the culture.
