As post graduate students, you will come from far and wide in the Thames Valley Region, you may not be fixed to Oxford, and may wish not to travel into university (even if you are local) and with uncertainty of the coming year, considering the implications for public transport and car sharing along with the on campus restrictions, it is sensible that we prepare you to be online learners. We know that an online student experience will be different, as this takes some preparation, for us both, and if it is safe to do so we can move to more campus based teaching in the future. We will do all that we can to ensure that you can access resources virtually to avoid having to come into the library, but you may wish to come to the campus even if your teaching is online.
Where possible, and indeed where sensible, we will aim for some face-to-face delivery, this may be achieved with social distancing in smaller groups of students, and of course subject to room capacity which will be affected university wide. If, hopefully when, you do come to campus this next year, for teaching or to access the library we have a useful student union video here to show you what measures have been put in place during the current situation. This video is based at the Headington Campus, but applies to other campuses such as Marston Road that you will be taught at.
For more information about how the COVID-19 situation may affect your student experience see the University web pages. We can now share more details about what we can expect from each other as both staff and students in the coming year.
How will we keep each other safe on campus? What we need students to do:
We will maintain a social distance on campus.
We will wear face coverings whilst on campus and when travelling between campuses on public transport.
We will not question those exempt from wearing face coverings (a coloured lanyard will be provided in this instance).
We will respect the adaptations made to our learning environment for our own safety.
We will adhere to one-way systems to ensure physical distancing.
We will wash our hands regularly with soap and water and/or sanitiser.
We will clean personal spaces we have used in classrooms at the end of teaching sessions.
We will provide any necessary information for test and trace purposes.
We will support each other and be respectful of each other whilst on campus.
We will carefully plan all our teaching activity and support services to make social distancing possible.
We will have face coverings for sale on campus.
We will provide lanyards/cards for those students and staff who choose to indicate their exemption from wearing face coverings.
We will provide a safe learning environment.
We will provide clear signage and safe routes for movement around campus.
We will provide sufficient supplies of soap and sanitiser.
We will provide sufficient supplies of cleaning materials.
We will develop approaches to test and trace which are non-intrusive and easy to use.
We will have a behaviour policy to support students and ensure their safety and wellbeing.
If you need more information about any of the above, please email jennifer.kirman@brookes.ac.uk. As the semester develops we will have more information as to how the above is being implemented and adhered to in practice.
