Now look at the words that you have written and think about the language you have used. You might have used positive/ exciting words to describe studying, or neutral or there might be fear or negativity associated with it. Try not to judge your words but to become self aware of your attitude/ emotion.
It can be helpful to think about the idea of a growth mindset. This is the idea that learning can be developed and improved. Have a look at this video about a growth mindset which explains this further. You may also like to watch this ted talk by Dr Carol Dweck who has been influential in the development of the concept of the growth mindset.
Having watched the videos think back to the last time that you studied. Consider: what was your attitude towards yourself as a learner? What helped you that you would like to use again? What would you like to let go of?
Now write down 3 actions that you would like to take forward to help you develop a constructive mindset for learning.
As you prepare for your year of study it is useful to think about your coping strategies and ways of caring for yourself. Have a look at these suggestions about maintaining your wellbeing during studying from the Brookes Wellbeing team.
One strategy that can be useful is mindfulness. You can find some useful resources for finding about mindfulness including recordings that you can listen too at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre link. There are also a number of apps that can be helpful e..g. Headspace.
