Your programme of study will be a little different from the format previous students have experienced. This website hopes to give you a better understanding of what will happen in year ahead.
On this page we hope to introduce you to the people you will meet in the teaching team.
SCPHN Subject Coordinator and your Academic Assessor
I have a profile page on the OBU website you can take a look at my professional background. I am passionate about my role as an educator at the university and have been in this position as the 'course lead' for the SCPHN programme for over 6 years. I am really proud of this programme and value the students' contribution to how the programme has developed in this time. I have a really good working relationship with the community practice assessors and leaders in the NHS Trusts' you will be placed, this leads to an excellent student experience. Despite the challenges of this programme, it is extremely worthwhile and I am sure you will enjoy this experience enormously. I will be the module leader for 5 of the modules you will take this year, this is more than usual.
The Programme Lead for the department in which the SCPHN course belongs is Clare Butler (below).
In my personal life, most importantly, I am the mother of a little boy, and can be seen on my days off 'prancing' on all fours' pretending to be a pig (or a donkey, or a cow!).
I love gardening, being at home (luckily in recent months!), cooking, eating and family time.
Associate Lecturer (for the school nurse pathway)
Hello I’m Rachel and brand new to the team. My background is adult nursing. I trained in Manchester and I’ve been qualified since 1995.
Since then I have slowly added to my academic and professional journey. I completed my degree alongside the District Nursing Specialist course which incorporated nurse prescribing. As a result I worked as a District Nurse Team Lead in Stockport and Central Manchester for many years. Complex and heavy caseloads were the norm.
I moved back to Oxford a few years ago and worked as a Case Manager for community patients with complicated health needs. When I felt like a new challenge, I moved over into School Nursing and was so lucky to get a place on the SCPHN course in 2015. I really love a challenge and I push to increase my experiences and skills by changing environments where I can. I’ve worked in 5 secondary schools (at one point I worked in 3 at one time). I particularly enjoy delivering PSHE to young people and find their learning within this so uplifting. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and skills with you all.
In my spare time I’ve become a runner! I ran the virtual London Marathon this year which was my first and hope to run an ultra next year.
Jo is currently a lecturer in the adult nursing programme, based in Swindon. Jo is an adult nurse and has worked in distict Nursing, and is an experienced health visitor. She is really excited to be leading this module and has a real passion for the topics in this module.
