As part of our continued commitment to strengthening community connections and providing enriching opportunities for our families, we’re delighted to continue our instrumental music tuition program for students in Grades 3–5 this academic year.
Our classes will be led by our talented visiting instrumental music specialists who have played in concerts and performances all over the world. Whether your child dreams of playing the violin, or another instrument, this is a fantastic opportunity to inspire their love for music and watch their confidence soar. Students in our tuition program will also be given the opportunity to perform in assemblies, recitals both in and out of school and will be able to audition for our school orchestras and bands.
We can’t wait to help your child discover their musical potential and look forward to welcoming budding musicians to this exciting new program!
Studies have shown that learning a musical instrument can boost cognitive ability and improve academic performance.
In fact, a study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology reports students who play musical instruments score significantly higher in science, math and English exams than their non-musical peers.
Researchers have also found that learning to play a musical instrument can enhance verbal memory, spatial reasoning and literacy skills.

Timetables:
Your child will have their instrumental lesson in the PAC once per week during the school day (between 9 and 3pm). Lesson times will rotate so that your child does not miss the same curriculum class more than twice per semester although lessons will always be on the same day each week. Your child will not miss swimming or skating due to the nature of the preparation needed and location of these lessons.
Group size:
Instrument lessons will take place in groups of 2 or 3 students and, where possible, students will be in a group with other students of a similar ability. If there are not enough students to form a group, lessons may be postponed until the following semester.
Missed lessons:
Payment for instrumental tuition is required in advance and by the deadlines listed below. There will be no refunds for missed lessons although we will attempt to arrange make-up classes when possible. School events such as trips, Terry Fox run, sports day etc will be taken into account when lesson times are planned and lessons will be re-arranged to avoid these.
Teachers will be given the tuition timetable for the full semester in advance and will, where possible, avoid scheduling key assessments during your child's lesson time.
When a teacher is absent due to illness, parents will be notified via email and a make-up lesson scheduled when the teacher returns. Students will be informed via their homeroom teacher when they arrive at school at 8.15am.
Communication:
All communication regarding instrumental lessons will be coordinated between parents and Branksome Hall Asia through our Music Assistant, Ms. Chloe Park.
To ensure smooth communication and consistency, particularly for group lessons, we kindly ask that parents refrain from contacting the instrumental teachers directly. This approach helps us maintain clear and effective communication for everyone involved.
Parents will be sent updates on their child's progress twice per semester.
Class Locations and timings:
Grade 3 - Grade 5 students can walk to the PAC 3F CASE space without supervision. (Parents should give their permission when submitting the application form.) Grade 2 students will have their lessons in the LJS building.
All Students should arrive at the lesson location and be ready to participate before class time begins.
Other:
Parents are not permitted to attend classes.
