Welcome to the melodious world of music at BHA! Beginning in Junior School, our music program is dedicated to nurturing creativity, providing diverse opportunities to develop various musical skills, and instilling a deep appreciation for music as a lifelong passion.
The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB PYP, MYP and DP) allows us to design a curriculum that incorporates a rich array of musical experiences focusing on the key skills of music appreciation, composition, and performance. In Junior School, students begin to explore the world of music with interactive lessons and engaging activities. Through hands-on experiences and collaborative projects, they discover the joy of making music together, laying the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
From Grades 6-12, students in the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme are provided with opportunities to investigate and dive deep into exploring diverse musical genres, overcoming challenges as composers on a creative journey, and developing further as confident performers.
The opportunities and experiences that are woven into our Music curriculum from JK - Grade 12 support students in honing transferable skills that support students both in and out of the music classroom. Students are encouraged to utilize communication skills to listen and share their opinions and ideas clearly, self-management skills to make plans and work efficiently, social skills to better collaborate with their peers, and thinking skills to analyze and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in order to grow.
Our extensive extra-curricular (CASE) programme provides opportunities for our talented musicians to share their skills and further improve their performance.
The year-long music ensembles include; the Junior Honors Orchestra, Sinfonietta, the Symphony Orchestra, and the Choir.
Alongside this, we offer additional diverse experiences such as Korean Traditional Percussion as well as chances to build and play in a rock band such as our resident school band Hallix. These ensembles play a key role in school ceremonies as well as appearing in concerts and recitals throughout the academic year.
Music CASE activities are spaces where students can set aside school work and simply connect with like-minded individuals who share their passion and goal: creating music.
Complementing our Teacher-led CASE activities, we take pride in offering a range of student-led music ensembles and activities that provide valuable leadership opportunities for our students. These ensembles and activities not only showcase the diverse talents within our student body, but also foster collaboration, creativity, and a sense of community among our aspiring musicians. Through our assembly programme and wider school activities such as Plaid Tidings, there are multiple opportunities for students to volunteer to share their talents with a supportive audience.
Whether you're a budding virtuoso or simply passionate about exploring the transformative power of music, our music programme at BHA offers something for everyone. Come with us on a music adventure that goes beyond limits, sparks creativity, and develops students holistically. Let the music play on at BHA!
