Innovation in Motion: BPSU Commences Day 1 of Technology Transfer Caravan 2025!

April 08, 2025

In a decisive move to bridge innovation and enterprise, BPSU marked the triumphant opening of the Technology Transfer Caravan 2025, hosted by the Technology Entrepreneurship and Transfer Office (TETO) at the Multipurpose Hall of BPSU Orani Campus.

Bearing the theme “Unlocking Potential: Exhibiting Success and Identifying Pathways for Real-world Impact,” the event is the first in a series of initiatives that illuminate the University’s mission to harness academic brilliance and propel it toward real-world application, especially to aid in the local community. The caravan serves as a crucible of discourse, discovery, and direction, designed to inspire students and researchers to explore opportunities in technology transfer, intellectual property rights, and startup incubation.

The program commenced with Dr. John Ryan C. Dizon, Director of TETO, delivered invigorating opening remarks that emphasized the strategic vision behind the event and gave thanks to Prof. Monica B. Tanchiatco-Hipolito, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Technology Transfer, for her unrelenting support towards TETO’s activities.

Prof. Digna M. De Guzman, Director of the Orani Campus, followed suit with her heartfelt welcome, expressing gratitude and pride in hosting the momentous gathering at their honorable campus. She also acknowledged the presence of a number of respected individuals such as Dr. Pablo V. Acuña, OJT Coordinator, Dr. Alonzo Mortejo, Dean of Instruction - Orani Campus, as well as faculty and staff.

Further setting the momentum was Prof. Lizette B. Tapang, TETO Chairperson of the Orani Campus, who eloquently outlined the day’s agenda while extending warm appreciation to the attendees–many of whom were students along with faculty and staff of the Orani campus–for their time, curiosity, and commitment to innovation.

Ar. Abigail S. Cruz-Catapang, Manager of the Technology Transfer Unit (TETU), opened the knowledge exchange with Tech Transfer 101—a primer that highlighted the crucial role of safeguarding research and the transformative societal impacts enabled by effective technology transfer. Her insights emphasized not just protection, but purpose—ensuring technologies reach the communities they are designed to serve.

Next, Ms. Andrea O. De Jesus, OIC Manager of the Technology Business Incubator (TBI), shed light on the powerful synergy between innovation and protection. She introduced the functions of the Intellectual Property Unit (INPU) and guided participants through the legal shields that preserve original ideas and pave the way for commercialization.

Furthermore, a collaborative discussion on “How to Earn from your Research” was spearheaded by Ms. Virginia Mae M. Constante, Project Manager for SINAG-ATBI (DOST PCAARRD Project), and Mr. Kenneth Jairo C. Rosales, Business Development Head of SIKAT-TBI. Their presentation opened students’ eyes to the potential of turning research into revenue, illustrating how technology business incubation can transform academic outputs into sustainable ventures.

As the day drew to a close, Ms. De Jesus returned to the stage to deliver closing remarks, expressing gratitude to all participants and igniting anticipation for the succeeding legs of the caravan in the coming weeks.

With one day down and many more to go, the Technology Transfer Caravan 2025 promises to continue empowering minds and catalyzing innovation, all in the name of progress, protection, and purpose!
