On January 11, the Technology Transfer Unit (TETU) organized a training at the Fish Processing Center, BPSU-Orani Campus, conducted by the Orani Peninsula Producers Cooperative (OPPRO) on the herb-enhanced soft-boned milkfish production process for La D’Dis Farm Resort. Following the training, La D’Dis Farm Resort signed a technology licensing agreement for the commercialization of the technology at the SINAG ATBI Co-working Space, BPSU-Main Campus, January 18.
The herb-enhanced soft-boned milkfish technology is a utility model developed in 2021 by BPSU researchers led by Prof. Mark Nell C. Corpuz, a faculty researcher of the Center for Research on Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources in Brackishwater Systems (CRAABS) and a program head at the Institute of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
OPPRO, the technology’s pioneer adoptee, facilitated the training under the guidance of their former Chairperson Ms. Prescilla T. Allejos. OPPRO members provided a real-time, step-by-step demonstration of the production process, from cleaning the milkfish to post-packaging, which was well received by La D’Dis Farm Resort owners and technology licensees, Mr. Angelo Silva and Ms. Dolly Silva.
Ms. Andrea O. De Jesus, Officer-in-Charge of the Technology Business Incubator Unit (TBIU) and Patent Manager for the Intellectual Property Unit (INPU), along with all TETU staff, TBIU staff, and select SINAG ATBI and TETO staff were present. Prof. Corpuz was also in attendance.
Subsequently, a License Agreement signing for the La D’Dis Farm Resort owners was arranged by TETU and its Manager, Ar. Abigail S. Cruz-Catapang, the week after. The agreement allows them to produce, market, and sell the herb-enhanced soft-boned milkfish. Discussions also included strengthening BPSU’s partnership with La D’Dis through another agreement for the buko pie process of Abucay Campus.
The successful training and subsequent license agreement highlight TETO’s commitment to serving the community through the university's innovative resources and empowering local enterprises while promoting sustainable practices, as BPSU collaborates with partners such as La D’Dis Farm Resort to enhance the livelihoods of community members and advance a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
