BPSU SIKAT Technology Business Incubator (SIKAT-TBI) hosted a groundbreaking Design Thinking bootcamp on September 24, at the Learning Commons, 3/F University Library, BPSU-Main Campus, titled “Creative Pathways: Navigating Innovation with Design Thinking.”
The bootcamp aimed to equip students with the essential skills and mindset needed to tackle complex business challenges through innovative solutions. This human-centered approach prioritizes empathy, creativity, and experimentation, encouraging participants to think beyond conventional boundaries.
Dr. John Ryan C. Dizon, Director for Technology Entrepreneurship and Transfer Office (TETO), welcomed students from various colleges and universities, encouraging them to embrace innovation while enjoying the learning journey. Prof. Monica B. Tanchiatco-Hipolito, VP for Research, Extension, and Technology Transfer, also expressed her support, emphasizing the crucial role of innovation in driving commercialization efforts and the commitment of the BPSU SIKAT-TBI staff.
The bootcamp featured engaging sessions on the Design Thinking process led by Engr. Camay Villeroz, Consultant of TETO, along with a workshop on the Art of Pitching conducted by Arch. Aaron Raphael Bustos, Branding & Marketing Associate of BPSU SIKAT-TBI. Participants engaged in hands-on activities that fostered collaboration and creative problem-solving.
The event culminated in a pitch competition, showcasing students' innovative ideas. The judging panel included Mr. Benjamin Co, Division Chief of the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Division for the Bataan PPP and Investment Center; Ms. Ludivina Banzon, Department Head of the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office; and Mr. Edmer C. Fabian, Acting City Government Department Head, City Economic Development & Investment Promotion Office.
Team Grinding Gears emerged as the champion, taking home a prize of Php 20,000. The first runner-up honors went to Team Bagac Chapter, earning Php 15,000, while Team Powerpods and Team Meka-Elites tied as Second Runners-Up, each receiving Php 5,000. These teams impressed the judges with their innovative ideas and have been awarded seed funding to help bring their concepts closer to reality.
