The university’s Design, Research, and Extension in Additive Manufacturing (DR3AM) Center initiated efforts in animal prosthetics responding to a need from the Provincial Veterinary Office. On October 18, the team visited Iron Farm, Hermosa to fit the 3D-printed prosthetic leg on a lamb that had undergone amputation on its left hind leg, an initiative aiming to improve the lamb’s mobility and set a precedent for future applications in veterinary medicine.
This engagement was spearheaded by Dr. John Ryan C. Dizon, the BPSU DR3AM Center Manager, and Dr. Austin Diego from the Provincial Veterinary Office. The engineered prosthetic was designed and developed by Dr. Arman N. Nisay, the DR3AM Center Auxiliary Services Unit Head and a Faculty Member of the BS Mechanical Engineering program.
Additionally, the Technology Transfer Unit (TETU) participated to explore a partnership with the Provincial Veterinary Office. This collaboration seeks to facilitate future research initiatives addressing community needs in veterinary care, particularly in the development of technology such as 3D-printed animal prosthetics.
