Following the December 17 technology demonstration, the Technology Transfer Unit (TETU), together with SINAG Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (SINAG ATBI), officially handed over the Automated Cashew Shelling Machine to the Brgy. Quinawan Cashew Cooperative in Bagac, Bataan, March 4. The event was attended by Engr. Brian J. Tuazon, the machine’s lead researcher, along with cooperative members introduced by Treasurer Ms. Fryne Ann Tadia, supporting the cooperative’s cashew processing efforts.
Designed to improve efficiency, the Automated Cashew Shelling Machine minimizes direct contact with cashew sap, which can cause skin irritation. Unlike traditional manual shelling, where cashews are fed into the cracker one at a time, the machine features a hopper that allows multiple cashews to be loaded at once, streamlining the process and reducing labor effort. Additionally, the machine is equipped with a mechanism that speeds up the shelling process, further enhancing productivity.
The Brgy. Quinawan Cashew Cooperative welcomed the machine, recognizing its potential to reduce labor demands and increase production. By streamlining the shelling process, they anticipate processing more cashews while maintaining product quality and worker safety.
Aside from cashew nuts, the cooperative also produces cashew butter, a product line affected by their currently nonfunctional motorized cashew grinder. The cooperative expressed keen interest in future research initiatives, particularly the development of a motorized cashew grinder that could not only restore but also enhance their production capabilities.
With this new technology, BPSU strengthens its commitment to advancing cashew processing through research-driven solutions. Its collaboration with the Brgy. Quinawan Cashew Cooperative opens avenues for further innovation, creating sustainable and efficient production methods. By continuously developing technologies that address industry needs, BPSU plays a key role in enhancing the competitiveness of local producers in Bataan.
