What is one way you could include retrieval in your study routine?
Brain Dump
Choose a recent topic from class.
Have students take out a sheet of paper. Set a timer for 3 minutes.
Write everything you can remember about [recent topic] without using your notes.
Have students work with a partner or in small groups to compare what they wrote and then fill in what they missed using their notes and/or the textbook.
Whole-Group Debrief
Have a few students share responses to these prompts:
What was easy to recall? What was forgotten? Why might that be?
How did it feel to try to recall without notes?
Why might this be more effective than re-reading notes?
