Annotating Practice
Choose a short excerpt from a challenging course reading.
Have students read and annotate the excerpt using these prompts:
Summarize each paragraph in a few words in the margin.
Underline/highlight key concepts or confusing terms.
Write questions in the margin about unclear parts.
Have students work with a partner or a small group to discuss their annotations.
What strategies did you use?
What helped you understand the text better?
Whole-Group Debrief
Have 2-3 students share how annotating changed the way they read/understand the excerpt.
