Safety

Safety forms the basis of any activity in the workshop. It is very important for you and the other students' safety that we always adhere to the Health and Safety Rules of New Zealand.

Whāinga - Objectives

You need to complete the following objectives.

  • Familiarize yourself with entering the workshop safely.

  • Familiarize yourself with personal protective equipment(PPE).

  • Familiarize yourself with hand tool safety.

  • Familiarize yourself with power tool safety.

  • Familiarize yourself with machine safety.

  • Familiarize yourself with online safety sites Worksafe , NZOSH

Mahere Whakamua - Action Plan

1. Research - Get a comprehensive knowledge of workshop safety. Cover PPE, ventilation and the Health and Safety Act of New Zealand applicable on schools.

2. Go through the workshop and take note of all the safety aspects of each hand tool, machine and every area.

Present your findings in a presentation. Make sure you cover hand tools and machines.

One machine per poster. Pedestal Drill, Bench Sander, Scroll Saw, Horizontal Drill, Band Saw, Table saw, Thicknesser, Buzzer, Radial Arm Saw, Compound Saw, Wood Lathe and Router Table

3. Peer assessment - When you feel the presentation is finished share it with another student that will give you feedback. Make sure you give them "view only" and open the comments function to them.

4 Complete a Workshop Safety Poster. (upload when done)

5 Complete safety document for all hand tools.
