Welcome to the Bay of Islands College school Cybersmart site. Here you will find lots of learning resources and information related to using your Chromebook and being Cybersmart.
What is Cybersmart?
Being Cybersmart is your key to digital citizenship and knowing how to navigate your online learning positively. You'll discover how to make the most of your Chromebook while you're at school and how to access your learning at home through Smart Learner activities. You'll also learn how you can create a positive digital footprint that will help you to develop an online profile you can be proud of. Understanding different types of media will help you take your learning to a new level as you learn how to create films, digital imagery, film and podcasts to name a few. You'll also learn about copyright and image use.
You will be practising being Cybersmart whenever you create any digital documents in class, interact with blogs or comment online. Your teacher will help you if you have any questions.
School Learning Apps
All students at Bay of Islands College have their own Google Drive. Inside your Google Drive, you will find your subject folders. When making a new document, like a Google Slide or Google Doc, open the subject folder first and then create it. That way all of your work will be organised in the correct folder.
Class Sites
At Bay of Islands College all of our teachers have class sites. This is where students will find all of their learning resources. Teachers will add to their site regularly so students can see what their learning is for any given day. Each teacher has their own class site which can be accessed via the school website. Students should bookmark teacher's site to their Chrome browser so they can easily find them.
Earning badges
Blogging is an important part of your learning at Bay of Islands College. Regular blogging helps with your understanding in all subject areas. You will develop important online communication skills to help you articulate (express) your ideas and to show what your are learning about. You teacher will give you guidance and support to write and publish blog posts.
Elementary Blogger Badge
Once you have published 10 quality blog posts in 2024, you will be eligible to apply for the Elementary Blogger award. To qualify you need to check you have met the following criteria;
Ensure every blog post has an appropriate title, relative to your learning
Add blog post labels, to show which subject the post is representing
Add topic labels to your posts. For example in Science, you might have a topic label like Earth Science, Chemistry, or Experiments
You have copied the document Quality Blog post framework and highlighted the criteria you me. You have added a screenshot of this document to your blog and reflected on how you did and what you would like to improve on.
Bronze Badge Award
To earn the Bronze blogger award, you must have completed the following;
25 quality blog posts
Labels for every post
Text formatted correctly
Replied to any comments on your blog, using the positive, thoughtful, helpful framework.
